CRETE, Neb. - Doane College and the track and field program will honor Scott Nisely on Saturday, February 3, by renaming the track and field meet. Nisely was killed in action while serving the United States military in Iraq on September 30, 2006. A ceremony will take place at 12:45 p.m. in Fuhrer Field House during the meet.
Nisely was raised in Syracuse, Nebraska. A 1981 Doane graduate, he was a consistent scorer for the Tigers in both the high hurdles and 400 hurdles. He was a member of six Nebraska Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NIAC) championship teams from 1977 through 1980. At the conference championships, Nisely finished in the Top Four of every high and intermediate hurdles race he participated in. He received his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Biology.
The meet, formally known as the Fred Beile Classic, will be officially renamed the Scott Nisely Memorial Track Classic at the request of his former head coach, Fred Beile.
