KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The top three teams remain the same from last week, while Region II programs dominate once again in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men's Soccer Top 25 Poll, announced this afternoon. Concordia (Calif.) received 12 of 14 first-place votes to earn the No. 1 billing for the third straight week.
No. 2 Azusa Pacific (Calif.) stayed right behind Concordia after two wins last week including a 1-0 road victory at then-No. 13 Fresno Pacific (Calif.). No. 3 Graceland (Iowa) notched two first-place votes and stands 9-0-1 overall after winning three times last week by a combined count of 11-1. Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and Southern Nazarene (Okla.) are tied for the fourth spot.
Four teams in this week's Top 25 hail from Region II, which is comprised of the California Pacific Conference (CPC) and the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) - No. 1 Concordia, No. 2 Azusa Pacific, No. 10 Fresno Pacific and No. 17 Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.). Concordia and Azusa have been rated in the Top 10 in all six polls this year while another region team, The Master's (Calif.), is in the "others receiving" category this time with seven votes.
There are five teams this week that appear in the poll after receiving votes last time and four of which are newcomers in 2007. No. 22 Concordia (Ore.), who was in the Top 25 the first two weeks of the season, has won seven matches in-a-row. The four that are new to the ratings in 2007 are No. 23 Maine-Fort Kent, No. 24 Montreat (N.C.), No. 25 (tie) Lambuth (Tenn.) and No. 25 (tie) Mid-Continent (Ky.).
The sixth regular season Top 25 poll (seventh overall) will be released on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
