Rio Grande (Ohio) Still No. 1

Rio Grande remains No. 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Rio Grande (Ohio) keeps their hold on the No. 1 ranking.  For the third consecutive week, the Red Storm is in the top spot of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men's Soccer Top 25 Coaches Poll, announced this afternoon (Oct. 7).  Over the past week, they went 2-0 with wins over Walsh (Ohio) and Point Park (Penn.).  Those wins improve their season record to 10-0-1.  The Red Storm receives 22 first-place votes and 622 total points this week.

The rest of the Top 5 was shaken up a little this week.  Coming in at No. 2 are the Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) who collect 602 total points. Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) moves up from No. 8 to No.3 after receiving 571 total points.  Southern Nazarene (Okla.) checks in at No. 4 in the poll after collecting 564 total points.  Rounding out the Top 5 is another Oklahoma school, Oklahoma City.  The Stars earn 530 total points.

Four teams that received votes in last week’s poll jump into the Top 25 this week, including Southern Polytechnic (Ga.) who climbs all the way to No. 18.  Over the past week, they went 1-1 with a 4-2 win over Berry (Ga.) and a 1-0 loss at Bethel (Tenn.).  Other schools new to the poll this week are No. 23 Martin Methodist (Tenn.), No. 24 Baker (Kan.) and No. 25 Mobile (Ala.)

The next regular season Top 25 poll will be announced on Oct. 14.
