CANTON, Mo. -- The undefeated and third-ranked Graceland (Iowa) men's soccer team was in Canton, Missouri Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 16) for a Heart of America Athletic (HAAC) match-up with Culver-Stockton (Mo.). The Wildcats of Culver-Stockton stunned Graceland by winning 1-0 on their home turf giving the Jackets their first loss of the season.
Culver would score its only goal in the first half, and that would be how the game would end at 1-0. Mahamat Tchetchere notched the game-winner in the 24th minute. Despite getting out-shot 12-3, Culver-Stockton moved to 5-10 overall while the Jackets fell to 13-1-1.
"We had plenty of chances to win this game," Graceland associate head coach Aldemar Angel Monroy said following the contest.
"Culver deserved this win, they played hard and we played in frantic mode once we got down. Winning as much as we have lately, sometimes you can get a little complacent, that's exactly what we've done. The good thing is, we still control our own destiny. If we can win out in conference play, we'll still get the conference championship. We just have to pick up and move on."
This loss comes on the heels of a victory Sunday at NCAA Division I opponent Western Illinois.
