Grand Rapids, Mich. – After scoring two goals in Saturday’s 8-0 win over Siena Heights, David Wood has put himself atop the Davenport Men’s Soccer record books. Wood, just a sophomore, now has 17 goals and 36 points which broke the old marks of 15 and 33 for the soccer program at DU.
Wood, who hails from Middlesbrough, England, has put together one of the best all-around seasons in the short 4-year history of the Men’s Program here at Davenport as he has helped the Panthers to a #3 seed in the upcoming WHAC Tournament. The season got off to a slow start for the 5’9 forward, but David caught fire on September 27 when he connected on two goals in DU’s shutout of Indiana Tech. He followed that performance with two more goals the next two games as Davenport split with Aquinas and Siena Heights. The following week, David earned WHAC Player of the Week honors joining teammate Elfid Kovacevic in earning that honor this season.
The scoring was just getting started for Wood during the Panthers up-and-down mid-season, as he posted his second career hat-trick on October 11 when Davenport defeated Concordia on the road 5-0. Then, this past Saturday, in the Panthers final home game of the season, Wood broke the record previously held by Efrain Hernandez and added one more for insurance as DU dominated the visiting Saints from Siena Heights.
Wood will lead the Panthers into the WHAC Tournament off one of their most impressive wins of the season as they will play either at Aquinas College or at Madonna University in the semifinals. The game will be played this weekend.
