DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Seventh-seeded and defending national champion Lindenwood University advanced to the quarterfinals of the 47th Annual NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship with a 2-1 decision against second-year program and first-year national event participant No.10-seed Oklahoma Baptist University.
Aside from the strong offensive runs and quality goals, freshman goalkeeper Bryce Flynn may have stole the show for Lindenwood (11-5-4) recording seven saves for the Lions and six which came in the second half.
LU struck early with just 3:01 into the match when Ignacio Novas' pass to Pedro Chain was played back to an awaiting Vladimir Knezevic who blasted in an eight-yard shot to put the Lions ahead 1-0.
Lindenwood added a critical insurance goal at the 72:27 mark when a loose ball came from a left side scramble and was recovered by Novas who found the back of the wide-open goal.
The second goal didn't deflate OBU's spirits, as they quickly answered back when Nickson Odeny took a right-footed attempt that Flynn turned away and then recovered the loose ball to bury the left-footed blast.
Despite outshooting Lindendwood 14-12 and holding an 8-4 corner kick advantage, the Bison were unable to find the equalizer ending their season with a 15-6-2 record.
