DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - No. 2-seed Lindsey Wilson College ended defending national champion Lindenwood University's quest for a repeat title with 2-0 victory on Saturday to advance to the semifinals of the 47th Annual NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship held at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Soccer Stadium.
Just 1:39 into the contest, the Blue Raiders took the lead as Brian Ombiji tallied his 10th assist of the season when he connected with Mkhokheli Dube who netted his 21st marker of the year from 10 yards out.
Even with six shot attempts in the first half, Lindenwood was unable to locate the back of the Lindsey Wilson net trailing 1-0 at the intermission.
In the 79th minute, the LWC added an insurance goal, as Igor Stijepic split two Lion defenders ending all scoring blasting home his 12th goal of the season.
Lindenwood (11-6-4) freshman goalkeeper Bryce Flynn, who was a big part of the Lions' appearance in the quarterfinals, once again put on an impressive performance recording eight saves.
Second-seeded Lindsey Wilson advances to the semifinal match on Monday, November 21st at 8 p.m. and will face No. 3-seed Southern Nazarene which shutout No. 11-seed Notre Dame (Ohio) 1-0 today.
