The 15 winners of the Opening Round games, as well as host school Fresno Pacific (Calif.) University, advance to the final site of the 50th Annual Men’s Soccer National Championships from Dec. 1-6 in Fresno, Calif.
No. 1 seed Oklahoma City was one of several top seeds to cruise into the final site of the National Championships. The Stars took down McPherson (Kan.) 6-1 and moved to 18-2-1 on the year. Three matches went to a shoot-out format after two scoreless overtime periods. Concordia (Ore.) out-lasted defending national runners-up Concordia (Calif.) by a 9-8 penalty kick advantage. Hastings (Neb.) won by a 4-2 penalty kick margin over Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) while Maine-Fort Kent survived against Northwood (Fla.) 3-1 in PK’s.
The National Championships final site in Fresno, Calif., includes 15 games beginning with an 11:30 a.m. PST match on Monday, Dec. 1. There are four games scheduled during the first three days. The Semifinals are slated for Friday, Dec. 5 at 5 and 7:30 p.m. and the 2008 champion is crowned at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6. Notes: No. 1 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) is making its 16th appearance and 15th straight, which is the most by any school in the field… The Blue Raiders also boast the most wins of any participant with a 35-8-4 mark after a 6-0 win over King (Tenn.)… There are eight schools that qualified for the National Championships for the first time in school history… Three teams scored six goals – Oklahoma City, Lindsey Wilson and Notre Dame (Ohio)… The hosts went 13-2 today.
