2008 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship - Game 2

FRESNO, Calif. – (box score) The University of Mobile (Ala.) shut out Dana (Neb.) College 7-0 in the second game (Dec. 1) of the 50^th Annual NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship at the final site, hosted by Fresno Pacific (Calif.) University. Unseeded Mobile scored the most goals in school history in Championship play. Mobile advances to the Quarterfinals on Wednesday (Dec. 3) at 2 p.m. PST. The Rams play the winner of Bethel (Tenn.) and Southern Nazarene (Okla.).

The seven goals scored marks the most in Championship play since Ohio Dominican notched seven in the 7-0 blanking of Maine-Fort Kent last year.

Mobile’s Onesimus Ikungo recorded a hat trick, the first for a player in the Championship since Concordia’s (Calif.) Jon Fahey did the feat in last year’s Second Round. Teammate Ruben Diaz found the back of the net in the 19^th minute to record the game’s first goal. That was his team-leading 11^th marker of the year.

After two goals by Morgan Copes in the 27^th and 33^rd minute, the Rams led 3-0 at the half. Mobile kept up the offensive pressure in the second stanza lighting the scoreboard just :34 seconds into the half on the first of Ikungo’s three goals. Of the four second-half goals, Thomas Wharf notched an unassisted in the 54^th minute.

Jason Williams moved to 12-4 on the year in the net for Mobile. He was relieved in the 62^nd minute by Kyle Buxton.

Dana ends its year with a 15-4-3 overall record in its first ever Championship appearance.
