Fueled by eight event victories, The College of Idaho men's swim team recorded their first-ever dual meet victory in program history, defeating Lewis & Clark College, 109-68, in Portland, Ore. On the women's side, L&C claimed the victory over the Lady Yotes, 161-42.
The story was the men, as both John Green and Forrest Shoemaker claimed a pair of victories in the short-course dual. Green met the NAIA "A" qualifying standard in the 50-free (22.12) and the 100-free (49.28), while the freshman Shoemaker set a school record in the 500-free (5:07.92) and the 1,000-free (10:53.52) - meeting the NAIA "B" qualifying standard in the 500.
Freshman Kemp Smith claimed the win in the 100-fly (1:03.30) and senior Scott Mikelonis won the 200-IM (2:14.69), while both the 200-medley and 200-free relays took home titles.
On the women's side, the Pioneers won all 11 events to pick up the team victory, however, the Lady Yotes had quality individual performances. Senior Alphonsina Savell met the NAIA "A" standard in the 100-breast (1:13.31), while recording a "B" time in the 100-free (58.56) - placing second in both events.
One school record fell on the women's side, as Annie Younggren hit the NAIA "B" mark in the 500-free (5:53.15), taking second.
The Yotes return to the pool on Nov. 15 for a meet at Linfield College.
