MOBILE, Ala. -
Lee (Tenn.) became the only unseeded team in the 2007 NAIA Men's Tennis Championship to move into quarterfinal play, knocking off Savannah Art & Design (Ga.) 5-3 after the Bees entered the tournament as the No. 7 seed.
The remaining seven seeded teams in the tournament moved on into the quarterfinal round, headed by top-ranked Auburn Montgomery (Ala.), who dispatched Graceland (Iowa), 5-0. Two more teams moved into the quarters by-way of a shut-out, as Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) beat Berry (Ga.), 5-0, and Embry-Riddle (Fla.) topped Sunshine State rival Webber International, 6-0.
Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) survived a Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) comeback in its second-round match, as the Blue Raiders fell twice in doubles competition before winning the first four singles matches to hold on for the 5-4 win.
Fresno Pacific (Calif.) also moved on after its first match of the tournament, beating Benedictine (Kan.), 5-2, while Vanguard (Calif.) moved past Bethel (Tenn.), 5-2 in the final 9 a.m. match of the day. Lee opened the 10:30 a.m. matches with its win over SCAD, while Azusa Pacific (Calif.) made quick work of Union (Ky.) in a 5-1 decision to push the Cougars into the quarters.
