MOBILE, Ala. -
On a day when rain forced a pair of quarterfinal matches indoors, three teams moved into semifinal play with wins of 5-1, while one advanced after coming up with a 5-3 victory in Wednesday's quarterfinal round.
Among the semifinalists winning 5-1 were the tournament's top two seeds, as Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) and Azusa Pacific (Calif.) got by Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and Lee (Tenn.) as storms settled over the Mobile Tennis Center, forcing the final two matches of the day inside.
Embry-Riddle (Fla.) was the other squad to move into the semifinals after winning by four, topping Vanguard (Calif.) 5-1, using three doubles wins to qualify for the round of four.
Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) filled out the semifinal bracket with a 5-3 win over Fresno Pacific (Calif.). FHU won two matches in doubles play and after Fresno Pacific tied up the match in No. 1 singles, Freed grabbed three of the remaining four points in the match to win by two.
Thursday's semifinals will see top-seeded AUM go up against Freed-Hardeman, while No. 2 Azusa Pacific plays Embry-Riddle for a shot at the championship match. For complete semifinal coverage, log on to www.naia.org and click on the Men's Tennis Championship home page.
