Madison, S.D. - Dakota State (S.D.) University senior Laura Tewes scored her 1,000th career point on Saturday, December 28, 2007 against No. 2 Northwestern (Iowa) at the Dakota State University Memorial Field House. Before entering in the Northwestern game, she was two points shy of scoring 1,000 career points at DSU. Tewes scored a basket at the 18:54 mark in the first half of the game to record 1,000 career points. She scored 18 points in the game. Tewes went 6-for-9 from the field with a perfect showing behind the free throw line, going 6-for-6. She also grabbed a team high seven rebounds.
Tewes, a 6'1" forward, stands with 1,016 points so far in her four-year career at Dakota State University. According to the NAIA DakStats statistical website, she is ranked first in the nation in field goal percentage (62.1%) as of Thursday (Jan. 3). Laura is the daughter of Doug and Sally Tewes of Mayer, Minn.
The seventh-ranked Lady T's (8-6) will play their final non-conference game of the season on Saturday, January 5, 2008 as they take on NCAA Division II Augustana College at 7:00 pm in Sioux Falls, SD. The Lady T's will return back to DAC action on the weekend of January 11 and 12 in North Dakota, and return home for a four-game home stand starting on Friday, January 18th.
