OLATHE, Kan. - Indiana Wesleyan's Liz Howerth has been awarded as the NAIA's Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week after leading IWU to a pair of wins and averaging 27.0 points per game.
Howerth scored 22 and grabbed seven rebounds in last week's 24-point win over Huntington (Ind.), and in a battle of Division II women's basketball front-runners, Howerth scored 32 points and had three assists against No. 3 Saint Francis (Ind.) in a Wildcat win on the road. Howerth finished the week 18-of-27 from the floor (67 percent), including 10-of-12 against USF. She also hit 89 percent of her free throws for the week, knocking down 16-of-18 as the top-ranked Wildcats went 2-0 in the two-game stretch.
Howerth also averaged 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.5 steals during the week. Other nominees for this week's award included: Ashley Parker, Midway (Ky.); Ashley Wellman, York (Neb.); K.C.
