SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Two-time national runner-up Cedarville University defeated the University of Maine- Fort Kent 83-39 in Wednesday's first round of the 15th annual NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship. The 2006 event is being held at the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena in Sioux City, Iowa.
Cedarville jumped out to an early 15-0 lead and by halftime the score was 50-20 in Cedarville's favor.
All but two of the Yellow Jackets' 13 players scored in the game with three players scoring double digits: Karah Walton(15), Emily Delimpo (11) and Brittany Smart (10).
Traci Weatherhead led the Lady Bengals with 12 points. Nicole Corbin added ten. The loss ends Maine- Fort Kent's 15 game winning streak.
No. 1 seed Cedarville moves on to face Bryan (Tenn.) in the second round on Friday, March 8, 2006 at noon.
