SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Northwestern College's Deb Remmerde set a new NAIA Division II Women's Basketball tournament record with 10 three-point field goals made and tied the record for three-point attempts with 16 in the Red Raiders first-round win over Iowa Wesleyan 93-78 on Wednesday at the 15th annual Division II Women's Basketball National Championship. The 2006 event is being held at the Tyson Center/Gateway Arena in Sioux City, Iowa.
The previous record for three-point field goals made in a game (8) was shared by three different players.
Remmerde who finished with 42 points, one point shy of the tournament record for individual points in a game, was 14 of 22 from the field, 10 of 16 beyond the arc and 4 of 4 from the charity stripe.
The teams went back and forth in the first half with Northwestern sinking 61.3 percent of their shots. The Red Raiders took a 49-43 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Five different Iowa Wesleyan players scored double digits. Katie Bartsch led the team with 17 points, Amber Pencehad added 16. Allison Falls and Sara Goodman turned in 11 each while Erin McFadden chipped in with 10. This was the first tournament appearance for the Tigers
Northwestern advances to take on Indiana Wesleyan at 5:45 p.m. on Friday in second-round action.
