SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Brittany Smart set the all-time tournament scoring as No. 1 seed Cedarville (Ohio) defeated No. 4 Morningside, 95-79, in the second round of the 16th annual NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship at the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena in Sioux City, Iowa.
Smart eclipsed the all-time scoring record with a 25-point performance to lead the Lady Jackets. She now has 346 points in her tournament career, better the previous mark of 342 held by Brenda Schlegel of Saint Francis (Ind.). Smart was presented with the game ball following the contest.
Cedarville shot over 50 percent in each half, going 54.2 percent from the floor for the game, and hit seven three-point field goals. The Lady Jackets led from start to finish, opening up a 10 point lead at intermission.
Morningside's Dani Gass led all-scorers with 27 points. She was one of three Mustangs in double digits as Autumn Bartel added 16 points and Brittany Williamson chipped in with 11.
In addition to Smart, Karah Walton and Kirsti Beougher were in double figures. Walton had 21 points and Beougher 19. Smart finished with a double double as she also ripped down 12 boards.
Cedarville will take on Taylor in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
