SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Not even a power outage could stop the higher seeds on Thursday, day two of the 15th annual NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship. St. Francis set the only tournament record of the day - most tournament wins. A victory over Minot State marked St. Francis's 18th all-time tournament win.
A power outage interrupted action in the first game of the day. The Gateway Arena went dark midway through the first half and caused a delay of nearly 30 minutes. When play resumed, the Aquinas College Saints increased their nine-point advantage over Berea College to a 34-20 cushion at halftime. Aquinas went on to win 84-53.
Aquinas will face No.1 seed College of the Ozarks in the second round. Ozarks' Senior Cara Painter scored a double-double and led her team to victory over Webber International University, 75-50. The Lady Bobcats improved their record to an impressive 30-1 and extended their current winning streak to 21 games.
Reining national champion Morningside College advanced past University of Virginia's College at Wise 82-62. Morningside started the game with a 13-0 run and led by as many as 27 points during the game.
Notre Dame College threatened late in the second half but could not overcome Cardinal Stritch University. Cardinal Stritch's 62-60 victory puts them up against reigning national champions Morningside College.
Menlo came from behind to defeat Davenport University, 45-43 and will play St. Francis in the second round on Friday at 2:15 p.m.
