JACKSON, Tenn. - Top-seeded Vanguard University defeated eighth-seeded Texas College 91-47 to advance to the second round of the 26th annual NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship at Oman Arena.
Vanguard trailed Texas College three times by one point in the first five minutes of the game, but broke out on an 11 point run to take a 10-point, 19-9 lead at the 12 minute mark in the first half. They eventually grew their lead to 22 points at halftime. Their largest lead of the game was 47 points (91-44) with 30 seconds to play, as they posted their 11th 90 point game of the season.
Off the bench, Andrea Jacobson led five Vanguard players in double figures with her 20 points, while Jessica Richter collected 18. Kelly Schmidt followed with 16, while Rachel Besse posted a double-double 15 points and 12 rebounds. Lacey Burns added 10 points.
Texas College was led by Catherine Yancy and Erica Delley's 10 points each.
Vanguard improves to 29-1 on the season and advances to the second round for the fourth consecutive season on Friday at 12:30 p.m. to face fifth-seeded University of the Cumberlands (23-9).
