JACKSON, Tenn. - Second-seeded Houston Baptist University (Texas) fought back in the final minutes to pass seventh-seeded Lindsey Wilson College 60-57 to advance to the second round of the 26th annual NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship at Oman Arena.
Jere' Adams hit a 3-point basket with six minutes to play to give Houston Baptist their first lead since the 17 minute mark in the first half, 48-47. Although Lindsey Wilson regained their lead by three, 55-52, with four minutes to play, HBU went on to hit their free throws and hit 3-of-4 from the field for the win.
Numbers were identical almost across the board for both teams, as HBU made 21-of-60 field goals from the floor to Lindsey Wilson's 20-of-60.
Velencia Kuykendall and Adams each scored 18 points to lead Houston Baptist.
Lindsey Wilson was led by Demoya Williams' 16 points, followed by 10 points for both Kera Gibson and Shola Aladejebi.
Houston Baptist improves to 28-3 on the season and advances to the second round on Friday at 10:45 a.m. to face sixth-seeded Lubock Christian University (Texas) (20-11).
