Park player tries to sneak past the Trevecca Nazarene defense

JACKSON, Tenn. - Top-seeded Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.) defeated eighth-seeded Park University 64-51 to advance to the second round of the 26th annual NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship at Oman Arena.

TNU opened the game with a three minute, 11-1 run to jump out ahead of Park and held on to take a 33-25 lead into halftime. The closest Park came in the second half was four points (35-31) with 16:50 to play, before TNU scored six unanswered points to go up by 10. Both teams were held below 40 percent shooting from the floor for the game, while Trevecca shot 73 percent from the free throw line. Park was 60 percent from the line.

Jackie Weaver collected a double-double 23 points and 12 rebounds, along with four blocks, to lead Trevecca Nazarene, while Ashlie Gilland followed with 11.

Park was led by Katie Cummings' double-double 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Meghan Cummings added 10 points.

Trevecca Nazarene improves to 30-4 on the season and advances to the second round on Friday at 2:15 a.m. to face fourth-seeded Lewis-Clark State College (Idaho) (26-6).
