Trevecca's Van Atta's Coach AAU Junior Olympic team to Finals

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Trevecca Nazarene University head women’s basketball coach Gary Van Atta and Trevecca player K.C. Van Atta are teaming to coach a AAU Junior Olympic team representing Tennessee in the 2008 AAU Junior Olympic Games in Auburn Hills, Michigan. K.C. Van Atta is Gary Van Atta’s daughter and helped lead the Trevecca women’s team to the NAIA finals in her freshman season last year.

K.C. was selected as an assistant coach along with Michelle Snow of Clarkrange, Tenn., The combination has been a success, as the Tennessee Elite have reached the Gold Medal round. The Elite defeated the Detroit Lady Pistons 95-73 to advance to the Gold Medal round.

The players from Middle Tennessee on the Elite squad are Icelyn Elie (Lebanon, Tenn.), Lauren Wasson (Wilson Central), Laken Leonard (Jackson County), and Myriah Isles (Hendersonville, Tenn.).

Leonard was the MVP of Class A TSSAA State Tournament this year and Wasson was apart of the Class 3A TSSAA State Championship team.

The finals will be played Tuesday, July 29 at 10:30 a.m. at Lake Orion High School in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
