SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Top-ranked Oklahoma City University posted the best round of the day and ran away from the field enroute to a repeat as champions at the 2006 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships at Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Indiana. The Stars' freshman Ashley Sholer was never seriously challenged as she coasted her way to the individual medalist honors.

Oklahoma City shot a 304 team score for a four-round total of 1215 to make it a clean sweep of the tournament team record book. On the week, the Stars set records for low 18, 36, 54 and 72 hole totals as well as the single round tournament record set with Tuesday's sizzling 288 in the opening round. It was the University of British Columbia that ended up as the nearest pursuer with a 1249 total. Southern Nazarene University (Okla.) was the third place team with a 1281. Oklahoma City head coach Sara Mobley earned coach of the year honors.

After Sholer left her competitors in the dust with her opening round of 68, she was able to build a lead that allowed her to play percentage golf and avoid risk. She did exactly that as she finished at 296 for an eight-stroke margin over teammate Toni Pyrum who shot the low round of the day with a 73. Rachel Warren of Rocky Mountain College (Mont.) shot a final round 74 to move into third place.

The 72-hole event was hosted by Bethel College.  With the victory, Oklahoma City becomes the first school in NAIA history to win the men's and women's golf titles in the same year. The Stars men's squad captured the title last week in Olathe, Kan.  The top 15 finishers in this year's event earned all-tournament team honors.  For complete tournament results, please visit the NAIA website at www.naia.org.
