CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University (Ill.) head women's soccer coach Derek Begich recorded career win No. 100 when sophomore forward Ariana Robles found the back of the net with 17:54 remaining to play in regulation. The lone goal of the game proved to be the difference, as No. 25 SXU defeated No. 20 Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) women's soccer action September 29 at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field.
In his eighth season, Begich has spent his entire collegiate career at the helm of Saint Xavier's program. His career record now stands at 100-52-13. A 1996 graduate of Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.), Begich still holds ONU's record for career assists. His accolades continued during his coaching career as he was earned CCAC Coach of the Year honors in 2000.
The Cougars also got a solid defensive performance from freshman Danielle Wagner who recorded her third shutout of the season with three saves. Robles scored her game-winning goal off an assist from junior midfielder Natalie Liakopoulos. The Cougars outshot Trinity Christian, 10-7, in Friday's victory.
Saint Xavier (10-3 overall, 3-2 CCAC) continues conference play on Wednesday, October 4, facing Illinois Institute of Technology in a road match-up in Chicago. Start time for Wednesday's game is 7 p.m.
