KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Lee (Tenn.) has again been able to hold off Azusa Pacific (Calif.) and retains the No. 1 ranking in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Top 25 poll, announced this afternoon. Although there were not any changes in this weeks top five, the race remains close. The margin between the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, as voted upon by a 17 member-panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and independents, is only two points.
Lee collected three road wins this past week and out shot its opponents 145-9. The Lady Flames received eight first-place votes and a total of 343 points to hold the No. 1 position for the fourth consecutive week. Azusa Pacific (Calif.) continued to stay on Lee's heels after road wins at Master's (Calif.) and Warner Pacific (Ore.). The Cougars received five first-place votes and a total of 341 points to come in at No 2. Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) received one first-place vote and a total of 322 points to earn the No. 3 position.
Fourth place Concordia (Ore.) is arguably the hottest team in the country. The Cavaliers have rattled off 11-straight shutouts and haven't surrendered a goal since Sept. 7th. Martin Methodist (Tenn.) round's out the top five after going 3-0 last week.
The seventh regular season Top 25 poll (eighth overall) will be released on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
