Janaina Novaes of Lee (Tenn.) moved into the top seven in NAIA history for goals in a career

Janaina Novaes of Lee (Tenn.) has been selected as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Women's National Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Oct 14.

 

This is the third time Novaes, a senior forward from Curitiba, Brazil, has earned the national honor. Novaes has been an integral part of the success that No. 1 ranked Lee has had this season, which was the schools fifth straight  with an unbeaten record in conference play. Her seven goals on the week moved her into the top seven in NAIA history for goals in a career. The senior had three of the four game winning goals for the Lady Flames and helped them retain the top spot in the national rankings for the fourth consecutive week.

Victoria Charnley of Martin Methodist (Tenn.) was named the NAIA Women's National Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 14.

 

Charnley, a senior defender from Manchester, England helped the RedHawks to three wins on the week, including a 2-1 road upset of No. 9 St. Xavier (Ill.).  Martin Methodist also beat TranSouth Athletic Conference rival Cumberland (Tenn.) 9-1 and followed that with a 1-0 win over Robert Morris (Ill.).  The RedHawk defense allowed just eleven shots on goal in the three games.  Charnley has been named the TranSouth Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week as well as the NAIA Region XI Defensive Player of the Week.
