BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union (Ky.) College women's soccer standout Heather Jaques became the eighth player in program history to record her 100th career point in Wednesday's (Oct. 22) 5-1 victory over Brescia (Ky.) University on Senior Day.

With an assist, Jaques, a senior from Manitoba, Canada, recorded her 100th point while at Union. The assist was for a goal by Ashley Hall (Hazard, Ky.) in the 30th minute to make the score 3-0 in Union's favor.

It did not take long for Union to start scoring in the contest. The first goal came 45 seconds into the match when senior Estefania Cirigliano (Neuquen, Argentina) played a ball back to Renata Peixoto (Brasila, Brazil). Peixoto put the ball away to the far corner.

In goal for Union, senior Briann Bargo (Somerset, Ky.) played the first 65 minutes with three saves and allowed the lone Brescia goal.

Also honored on Senior Day was the duo of Karla Goncalves (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Ashleigh Mensch (Elizabethtown, Ky.) Goncalves helps hold down the Union midfield while Mensch provides strong defense for the Union back line.

Peixoto struck again in the 64th minute when she booted home her second goal of the match, unassisted. The match was her fourth multi-goal contest of the season.

A pair of Lady Bulldogs notched their first collegiate goals in the contest. Olivia Brock (Hebron, Ky.) was the first at the 26 minute mark. On the goal, she used a double assist from Hannah Goins (Corbin, Ky.) and Peixoto. Yashika Dixon, a sophomore from Lithonia, Ga., scored the final goal of the match in the 71st minute of play.

With the goals and assist, Peixoto passed Beth Martin (2000-03) on the Union career points list for 12th with her 68th point.

Freshman Marcela Salum (Guatemala City, Guatemala) was credited with assists on the final two Union goals.

Katie Overton put Brescia on the scoreboard with her goal in the 32nd minute. She had an assist from Paige McDowell.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 13-3 on the season while improving to 9-0 at home. The 13 wins so far through 2008 rank fifth in the program's 16-year history. Brescia, a member of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference moved to 3-7.

Union travels to King (Tenn.) College on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match. It is the final Appalachian Athletic Conference contest of the season for the Lady Bulldogs. Union enters the match with a 4-2 conference record in third place while King sets atop the standings at 6-0.
