KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The No. 1 ranking in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Top 25 poll, announced this afternoon, again belongs to Lee (Tenn.).
The Lady Flames have had a tight grasp of the top spot since taking it from Lindsey Wilson (Calif.) on Sept. 19th. This marks the fifth consecutive week Lee has held the ranking. The Lady Flames received eight first-place votes and a total of 343 points after finishing the regular season 3-1 against top 8 teams. The squad enters tournament play after an impressive 1-0 victory at then No. 8 St. Xavier (Ill.) where they out shot the Cougars 15-4.
Azusa Pacific (Calif.) remains in Lee's rear view mirror. Azusa received five first-place votes and a total of 341 points to come in at No. 2. The Cougars clinched at least a share of its third straight conference title after victories against then No. 9 Concordia (Calif.) and No. 17 Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.).
Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) received one first-place vote and a total of 323 points to earn the No. 3 position. Fourth place Concordia (Ore.) ended the regular season with a 12-game shutout streak. The Cavaliers collected a total of 305 points and have not surrender a goal since Sept. 7th. Martin Methodist (Tenn.) round's out the top five with a 12-4-0 record on the year.
The eighth regular season Top 25 poll (ninth overall) will be released on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
