Oct. 28, 2008
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Winners of eight straight matches, No. 1 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) once again is the leading team for the fourth consecutive week, as the eighth regular season edition of the 2008 NAIA Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll was announced today (Oct. 28). The Blue Raiders have been dominant this season, especially during their winning streak. They have out-scored the opposition by a 51-3 margin and boast five shut outs during the eight-match swing. Standing 13-1 on the year, Lindsey Wilson garnered 13 first-place votes and 607 total points.
Lee (Tenn.) again is nipping at the heels of Lindsey Wilson and is on a tear as well. LU has won 10 straight contests and shut out six opponents during that stretch. The Flames earned 599 total points and four first-place votes. The next three teams all follow in the same order as last week -- No. 3 Azusa Pacific (Calif.), No. 4 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) and No. 5 Concordia (Ore.).
Four programs still do not have a blemish on their record this year, Concordia, No. 7 Graceland (Iowa), No. 8 Trinity Christian (Ill.) and No. 17 McKendree (Ill.). One team suffered its first loss last week, Lindenwood (Mo.), which fell five spots to No. 23.
There are two scheduled Top 25 matches on Saturday (Nov. 1), No. 18 Westmont (Calif.) at No. 6 California Baptist and No. 7 Graceland (Iowa) at No. 23 Lindenwood. Regular season play is winding down for some conferences and independents. To track all the schedules and scores from conference/independent tournaments, click here.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, independents and unaffiliated groups. The ninth regular season Top 25 poll will be announced on Nov. 4.
