Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Davenport (Mich.) women’s soccer team ended their season on Saturday (Nov. 1) but the culmination did not come before two players put their names atop the school’s record book. Sophomore Shayla Crossman and freshman Brooke Guiles now are the top goal and point scorers in the history of Davenport soccer.
Crossman, a 5’6 midfielder, who missed most of her freshman season due to a knee injury, came back strong in her sophomore campaign. The native of Hudsonville, MI broke the single season points record as she finished the season with 19 points (7 goals and 5 assists) to break the old mark of 12 set a year ago by Ashley Phillips. Crossman also broke the season record for goals scored with her seven, which was matched by freshman Brooke Guiles. Guiles, a 5’6 forward from Jenison, MI, posted two goals in Saturday’s 3-3 tie with Siena Heights University to match the record of Crossman.
Together the two players have helped Davenport women’s soccer to its most successful season in its short three year history as they finished with an overall record of 4-10-2 and 3-8-1 in WHAC play. Davenport finished in 5th place in the conference which was just one spot away from making the conference tournament which begins this weekend.
