OLATHE, Kan. - The 13-seed Robert Morris College (Ill.) used four second-half goals to record a 4-0 first-round shutout against #20 Jamestown College at the 2005 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship. The 20-team single-elimination tournament continues through Tuesday, November 22 and is being contested at the College Boulevard Activity Center in Olathe, Kan.
After a scoreless first half, Basilea Amoah-Tetteh scored the first of two goals in the 48th minute off a corner kick with assists from Mavis Danso and Anne Meshes. Alberta Sackey scored in the 56th minute on a give and go from eight yards out from Amoah-Tetteh. Amoah-Tetteh (Lori Thomson) and Thomson (Johanna Gomez, Rachel Sparkman) both scored in the latter part of the second half to seal the victory. Fati Mohammed had six saves in her seventh shutout of the season.
Jamestown's Dianna Rachul recorded nine saves in the Jimmies first-ever national championship appearance. Jamestown qualified for the tournament after capturing the Region III title. Jamestown concludes its season with an overall record of 9-11-1.
A semifinalist last year, Robert Morris improves its record to 16-6-1 on the season and advances to Thursday's second round game to face fourth-seeded Houghton College (N.Y.) at 5 p.m. (CST).
