OLATHE, Kan. - Fourth-seeded Houghton College (N.Y.) defeated #13 Robert Morris University (Ill.) 2-0 to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2005 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship being played at the College Boulevard Activity Center in Olathe, Kan.
Heidi Troth scored the game's first goal for Houghton on a penalty kick in the 15th minute. The only other goal came at 39:15 when Bethany Kowalczyk's shot from nine yards out sailed over the goalkeeper. Rebecca Smith and Hannah Swift were credited with assists on the goal. Meghan Radimer made two saves for her 15th shut out of the season.
Houghton (20-0-1) head coach David Lewis became the NAIA's all-time winningest women's soccer coach days before the beginning of postseason and improved to 235-50-1.
Robert Morris (17-7-1) followed up last year's semifinal appearance by winning in the first round, 4-0 against Jamestown College (N.D.). Sophomore goalkeeper Fati Mohammed has six saves and allowed two goals in the loss.
Houghton will play the winner of the Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.)/Westmont College (Calif.) game in Saturday's quarterfinal round at 7:15 p.m. (CST).
