OLATHE, Kan. - Eighth-seeded Westmont College (Calif.) will play in the quarterfinals of the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship for the second-straight year after a 3-1 victory over ninth-seeded Covenant College (Ga.) Friday afternoon at the College Boulevard Activity Center in Olathe, Kansas.
Jane Wyche gave Wesmont a 1-0 advantage in the 28th minute when she scored off the far post. Covenant tied the game 1-1 after Ashley Wood scored off a free kick at the 47:10 mark. Westmont would need only eight-seconds to retake the lead when Amy Lawson scored off a Katie Rhodes rebound to make the score 2-1. The Warriors added an insurance goal in the 64th minute as Anna Gropp scored off a give and go from Katie Rhodes to give Westmont a 3-1 lead.
Covenant College, an at-large qualifier, ends their season with a record of 15-4-0, while Westmont improved to 14-5-1 on the season.
Westmont advances to the quarterfinals where it will meet No. 1 Azusa Pacific University Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
