Lindsey Wilson Scores In Fourth Overtime To Win 2006 NAIA National Title

Lindsey Wilson wins their 2nd NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship in three years

Nov. 21, 2006

OLATHE, Kan. - After 122 minutes of soccer on Monday night at the College Boulevard Activity Center, second-seeded Lindsey Wilson College captured its second national title in three years by defeating top-seeded Azusa Pacific University 2-1 in the fourth overtime of the 2006 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship game in Olathe, Kan.

Exactly two minutes into the fourth overtime period, Lindsey Wilson's Kristine Perdersen found the upper right corner of the net from 15 yards out off an assist from Sashsheena Stewart for the game-winner.  It was Perdersen's 24th goal of the season.

Early on, Azusa Pacific took a 1-0 lead at 21:27 when Sarah Yoro placed the ball into the left-side netting off a service from Thresea Broad for her ninth goal of the year.  Later on in the first half, Lindsey Wilson's Omolyn Davis evened the game up at 1-1 after she took a through ball from Stewart at 37:54.  It was Davis' ninth goal of the season.

The two sides played a scoreless second half despite Azusa Pacific holding a 16-3 lead in shots, including a 7-1 edge in shots on goal.

Although Azusa Pacific out-shot its opponent 33-18 for the game, Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper Lisbeth Skjodt was up to the challenge.  Skjodt, who was named to the all-tournament team, grabbed 11 saves in the victory.

Tonight's game was a rematch of a regular season bout between the two national finalists as Azusa Pacific defeated Lindsey Wilson, 2-1, on Sept. 23 at the Lady Flame Classic in Cleveland, Tenn.

Azusa Pacific, which was playing in its first championship game since 2002, finishes the 2006 season with a 21-2-0 overall record.  Lindsey Wilson concludes its national championship campaign with a 24-2-0 record.
