DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.  - The first day of the 2008 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship is complete and four teams have advanced to the Quarterfinals. The Championship, hosted by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, will continue tomorrow at 11 a.m. (EST). All games are played at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium with the final scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. (EST).

DAY 1 SCORES (Monday, Dec. 1):
Game #1: No. 1 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) 3, No. 16 McKendree (Ill.) 0
Game #2: No. 5 Concordia (Ore.) 2, No. 12 Berry (Ga.) 1 (2OT)
Game #3: No. 4 Azusa Pacific (Calif.) 3, No. 13 Cal State San Marcos 0
Game #4: No. 3 Lee (Tenn.) 4, No. 14 Park (Mo.) 0

DAY 1 RECAP:
Monday, Dec. 1
Game #1 - No. 1 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) 3, No. 16 McKendree (Ill.) 0
Top seed Lindsey Wilson is moving on in the 25th Annual NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship.  The Blue Raiders defeated No. 16 seed McKendree (Ill.) 3-0.

 

Lindsey Wilson led 2-0 at the half on goals by Louise Christensen and Anne Houliston.  The Blue Raiders scored once more in the second half on a goal by Kimmia Parker with 25 seconds remaining in the game.

 

Lindsey Wilson improves to 20-1 on the year while McKendree ends the season at 19-2-1.

 

The Blue Raiders will play again at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3 against the winner of Northwood (Fla.) and Graceland (Iowa).

 

Game #2 - No. 5 Concordia (Ore.) 2, No. 12 Berry (Ga.) 1 (2OT)
The second game of the day between No. 5 Concordia (Ore.) and No. 12 Berry (Ga.) turned out to be a double overtime thriller. 

 

After a scoreless first half, Berry got on the scoreboard first on a goal by senior Viktoria Frost.  The score remained 1-0 until Concordia freshman Sarah Saldivar scored in the 72nd minute.  That would be the last goal either team would score in regulation or the first overtime period.

 

It looked like this game was heading to a penalty kick shootout, but Concordia kept their undefeated season alive when sophomore forward Kaitlyn Tebbs put the ball in the net with just over a minute remaining in the second overtime session.

 

Concordia improves to 21-0-1 on the year while Berry ends their season at 12-8-2.

 

The Cavaliers will play again at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3 against Azusa Pacific (Calif.).



Game #3: No. 4 Azusa Pacific (Calif.) 3, No. 13 Cal State San Marcos 0
Azusa Pacific (Calif.) has advanced to the Quarterfinals of the 25th Annual NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship after defeating in-state rival Cal State San Marcos 3-0.

 

Azusa Pacific didn’t waste any time, scoring less than 10 minutes into the match on a Sarah Yoro goal.  Yoro netted another goal in the 30th minute, giving her team a 2-0 lead.  Theresa Broad put the game away with a goal in the 85th minute.

 

Azusa Pacific improves to 19-2 on the year while Cal State San Marcos ends the season at 13-4-4.

 

The Cougars will play again at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3 against No. 5 Concordia (Ore.).  Concordia defeated Berry (Ga.) 2-1 in double overtime earlier in the day.



Game #4: No. 3 Lee (Tenn.) 4, No. 14 Park (Mo.) 0
Lee (Tenn.) got off to a hot start, scoring two goals in the first 20 minutes of their match against the Park (Mo.) Pirates. 

 

Senior Kristina Chase got the scoring started with a goal at the 39:30 mark.  Junior midfielder Jenna Achten added another goal in the 25th minute, giving the Lady Flames a 2-0 lead.

 

Lee scored another quick goal right after halftime as junior Christiane Christensen scored less than two minutes in the second half.  Kristina Chase netted her second goal of the contest less than ten minutes later to make the score 4-0.  That would prove to be the final score.

 

Lee improves to 22-1 on the year while Park ends the season at 14-2-3.

 

The Lady Flames will play again at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3 against the winner of Martin Methodist (Tenn.) and Simon Fraser (B.C.).



DAY 2 SCHEDULE (Tuesday, Dec. 2):
Game #5: No. 8 Graceland (Iowa) vs. No. 9 Northwood (Fla.), 11 a.m.
Game #6: No. 6 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) vs. No. 11 Simon Fraser (B.C.), 1:30 p.m.
Game #7: No. 7 Cal Baptist vs. No. 10 Trinity Christian (Ill.), 4:30 p.m.
Game #8: No. 15 William Carey (Miss.) vs. Embry-Riddle (Fla.), 7 p.m.
