DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – (updated bracket) Day two of the 2008 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship is complete and we now know all eight teams that have advanced to the Quarterfinals. The Championship, hosted by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, will continue tomorrow at 11 a.m. (EST). All games are played at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium with the final scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. (EST).

Game #5: No. 8 Graceland (Iowa) 2, No. 9 Northwood (Fla.) 1
Game #6: No. 6 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) 1, No. 11 Simon Fraser (B.C.) 0

Game #5: No. 8 Graceland (Iowa) 2, No. 9 Northwood (Fla.) 1
Day two at the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship final site began with No. 8 seed Graceland (Iowa) battling ninth-seeded Northwood (Fla.).
Undefeated Graceland got on the scoreboard early when Karina Vega was able to convert on a penalty shot less than three minutes into the game. The Yellowjackets extended their lead to 2-0 when sophomore forward Chelsea Phillips netted a goal in the 11th minute. They would take that lead into halftime.
Northwood cut the lead in half less than five minutes into the second half when Katya Salguero scored on a pass from Lisa Ohberg. Although both teams would have opportunities, neither team was able to score again. In a very evenly matched contest, Graceland was able to come away with a 2-1 victory.
Graceland improves to 19-0-2 on the year while Northwood ends the season at 17-3.
The Yellowjackets advance to the Quarterfinals and will take on top seed Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) at 4:30 p.m. (EST) on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
Game #6: No. 6 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) 1, No. 11 Simon Fraser (B.C.) 0
The second game of the day featured eleventh-seeded Simon Fraser (B.C.) and defending national champion Martin Methodist (Tenn.).
Martin Methodist junior midfielder Shannon Walter netted the lone goal of the first half on a Simone Souza assist.
The second half was a classic defensive battle with great play from both goalkeepers. Both teams would have chances, but neither was able to put the ball in the net and Martin Methodist came away with the 1-0 victory.
Martin Methodist improves to 20-1 on the year while Simon Fraser ends the season at 12-7.
The RedHawks advance to the Quarterfinals and will take on third-seeded Lee (Tenn.) at 1:30 p.m. (EST) on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
Game #7: No. 10 Trinity Christian (Ill.) 1, No. 7 Cal Baptist 0
The third game of the day saw No. 7 seed Cal Baptist battle No. 10 seed Trinity Christian (Ill.) to decide who would move on to the Quarterfinals of the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship.
Fans didn’t have to wait long to see a goal as Trinity Christian freshman Allison Doyle scored less than two minutes into the contest, giving the Trolls a quick 1-0 lead. They would carry that lead into the half.
Neither team was able to score a goal in the second half. Trinity Christian, making their first ever appearance in the National Championships, became the first lower seed in this year’s tournament to defeat a higher seed.
Trinity Christian improves to 22-1 on the year while Cal Baptist ends the season at 16-5-1.
The Trolls advance to the Quarterfinals and will play the winner of No. 15 William Carey (Miss.) and host school Embry-Riddle at 7 p.m. (EST) on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
Game #8: No. 15 William Carey (Miss.) 3, Embry-Riddle (Fla.) 1
The final match of the day featured the No. 15 seed William Carey (Miss.) Lady Crusaders against the Eagles of Embry-Riddle (Fla.), the tournament host school. The game would determine the eighth and final team to advance to the Quarterfinals of the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship.
William Carey got on the scoreboard first on a goal by Shannon Steffen. Embry-Riddle evened the score at 1-1 when Elina Johansson took a pass from Cecile Henriksen and put it in the back of the net with just over three minutes to go in the half.
William Carey reclaimed the lead in the 58th minute on a goal by freshman midfielder Abby Johnson. Shannon Steffen increased the lead to 3-1 with her second goal in the 76th minute with an assist from Aimi Beresford.
William Carey improves to 16-3-1 on the year while Embry-Riddle ends their season at 8-9.
The Lady Crusaders advance to the Quarterfinals and will play Trinity Christian (Ill.) at 7 p.m. (EST) on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
