Lee goes to the Semifinals after advancing past Martin Methodist on PKs 4-2

Dec. 3, 2008

Daytona Beach, Fla. – The second game of the Quarterfinal Round featured two teams from Tennessee as No. 3 seed Lee took on defending national champion Martin Methodist.

The first half was a defensive battle and the teams were locked in a scoreless halftime tie.

In the second half, both teams would have opportunities but neither could put the ball in the net until Lee junior Christiane Christensen scored in the 81st minute, giving the Lady Flames a 1-0 lead.  Martin Methodist answered right back a few minutes later on a goal from freshman Nicole O’Donnell, tying the score at 1-1.  Neither team would score again in regulation, sending the game to overtime.

After scoreless overtime and double overtime periods, the game moved to a penalty kick shootout.  Lee won the shootout 4-2, getting goals from Christiane Christensen, Linn Christensen, Jenna Achten and Marina Lima.  Martin Methodist had beaten the Lady Flames in the tournament three years in a row.

Lee moves to 22-1-1 on the year while Martin Methodist ends their season at 20-1-1.

The Lady Flames advance to the Semifinals and will play the winner of Trinity Christian (Ill.) and William Carey at 7 p.m. (EST) on Friday Dec. 5.
