OLATHE, Kan. - California Baptist is the NAIA Preseason No. 1 in softball, beating out defending national champion Mobile (Ala.) with seven first-place votes to Mobile's five.
In the 2006 NAIA Softball Championship, Mobile defeated Cal Baptist 4-1 to take its first softball national title in school history. This season's preseason Top 10 includes Simon Fraser (B.C.) at No. 3, followed by Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) and Oklahoma City in the top five. The Top 10's second half begins with Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.), followed by No. 7 St. Gregory's (Okla.), Lee (Tenn.), Houston Baptist (Texas) and Concordia (Calif.).
The ratings schedule for 2007 resumes in March, with the first regular season rating scheduled for a March 21 release.
