DECATUR, Ala. - California Baptist advanced in the winner's bracket at the 2008 NAIA Softball National Championship with 2-1 victory over Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) in 12 innings.
CBU got on the scoreboard first in the second inning when Nicole Shoemaker was hit by the pitch, moved to second on sacrifice bunt and scored on Allison Dennis' single. Trevecca Nazarene tied the game at one in the bottom of the seventh with two outs to send it to extra innings. Kacey Coonce drove in Sara Nicholson with a bases loaded single. Allison scored the game winner for the Lancers on a wild throw to the home plate by the left fielder.
Amy Thomas pitched all 12 innings for California Baptist for the win while Brittiany Johnson took the lost for Trevecca Nazarene.
California Baptist will take on Mobile (Ala.) in the winner's bracket while Trevecca Nazarene will face Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) in the elimination game. Both games are schedule for 3 p.m. (CST).
