Lions Advance to Play on Tuesday

 

Decatur, Ala. - From the 2007 NAIA National Softball Championship at Wilson Morgan Park in Decatur, Alabama, Point Loma Nazarene University (Calif.) (44-10) defeated California Baptist University (57-4) 5-0 to advance in the winner's bracket and will play another day in the championship.


 

 

 

For Point Loma junior Amanda Addie went 4-for-4 on the day with one run scored and one RBI. Randi Mead and Melissa Gomez added two hits each for the Sea Lions who landed 10 hits as a team.  Addie led Point Loma entering the championship with a .437 batting average, two home runs and 22 RBI.  Gomez improved her pitching record to 6-4 on the season completing seven innings with two earned runs and three strikeouts.

 

California Baptist scattered only three hits among three different Lancer batters.  Candice Thomas dropped her record to 30-2 on the season pitching seven complete innings allowing three earned runs in the contest.  Thomas entered the tournament with a 28-1 record with a 1.24 earned run average.

 

Point Loma advances to play at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the winner's bracket against the winner of Simon Fraser University (B.C.)/Oklahoma City University contest.  California Baptist drops into the loser's bracket and will face the winner of Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.) and Houston Baptist University (Texas).
