MOBILE, Ala. - The 2006 NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship completed opening day with very few surprises.  With the top-seeded teams receiving a bye the first round, remaining teams battled for the right to advance to the second round.  For the third consecutive year, all matches are being played at the Mobile Tennis Center.

Point Loma Nazarene University (Calif.) and Savannah College of Art and Design (Ga.) were the only teams on the women's side of the bracket to not drop a match, both winning 9-0.  Indiana Wesleyan University surprised Oklahoma Christian University with a 6-3 victory.  Top-seeded and defending national champion Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.) will take the court against Lewis-Clark State University (Idaho).

Vanguard University (Calif.) was named the Buffalo Funds Five Star Award winner for the sport of women's tennis.  The Lions' goal is to show that their beliefs and morals are not "empty talk" but put into action.
