Three of Four Top Seeds Advance to Semis

Lindsey Wilson used strong hitting to overcome #4 Southern Nazarene.

May 17, 2006

MOBILE, Ala. - Fifth-seeded Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) played its way into the semifinals of the 2006 NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship with a stunning 5-0 victory against No. 4 Southern Nazarene University (Okla.).  Matches are being played at the Mobile Tennis Center May 15-19.

Top-seeded and defending national champion Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.) continued its dominance, defeating #8 Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.) 5-1.  The lone match loss was at the #1 singles when Kamila Dadakhodjaeva retired, giving Marie Lord-Andrade the victory for AUM's only dropped match of the tournament.  Second-seeded Fresno Pacific University (Calif.) used a 5-0 match score to eliminate No.7 seed Berry College (Ga.) to become the only team that has not dropped a match.  No. 3 Azusa Pacific University (Calif.) wasted no time in advancing against sixth-seeded Vanguard University (Calif.) 5-0.

AUM will face Lindsey Wilson in the semifinals on Thursday for the right to play in the championship match.  AUM won the only meeting between the two teams 5-0 in early April during the Small College Blue and Gray Classic.  Fellow Golden State Athletic Conference members Azusa Pacific and Fresno Pacific will square off for the fourth time this season.  Fresno has the upper hand after winning all three previous matches.

Semifinal matches begin at 9 a.m. (Central) with the championship match taking place at 10 a.m. (Central) on Friday.
