Wise, Va. - Britney Lawson became the first Lady Cavs' women's volleyball player to record 2,000 career digs.
In her final game in Greer Gym, the Rye Cove, Va. product had her best game of the year with 52 digs in a 3-1 victory over Pikeville College last Thursday, Nov. 6th. The big effort gave Britney 436 digs for the year on the Lady Cavs (10-21) defense. She eclipsed the 2,000 dig plateau after saving 11 balls in the first game of the night. In her career, Lawson now has 2.49 digs to her credit.
The 5-7 libero claimed the UVa-Wise season dig mark last year where she posted 1,047 digs and averaged 7.17 digs per game, ninth best in the NAIA ranks. She has dug over 300 digs in each of the last three seasons along with 247 as a freshman.
Lawson was a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete as she holds a 3.68 GPA in math education in the classroom. The four-year player earned Appalachian Athletic Conference Libero of the Year as a junior along with NAIA All-Region XII tournament team and All-Region XII second team to go with the All-AAC first team status.
