COLUMBIA, Mo. - The top two teams in Pool E won their matches on the opening day at the 28th Annual NAIA Volleyball National Championship.
The defending national Champion, No. 5 National American (S.D.) defeated Bellevue in three (30-28, 30-26, 30-18) while No. 6 Lindenwood (Mo.) knocked off Savannah College of Art & Design in four (30-27, 23-30, 30-11, 30-25).
National American's Daniela Oliveira led the Mavericks with 20 kills and 11 digs. Tais Batistella and Thamy Viana also reached double digits in kills for National American with 10 and 14 respectively. Amanda Silva was the team leader in assists (42) and digs (12).
Three players reached double figures in kills for Lindewood led by Erika Kliokmanaite with 25 kills. Sarah Gildehaus had 19 while Krista Yoder recorded 13. Lisa Clark assisted on 48 kills for the Lady Lions and Alyssa Showers posted 18 digs.
