COLUMBIA, Mo. - Concordia (Calif.) cruised to 3-0 record in Pool C while Madonna (Mich.) posted 2-1 record in the pool play to advance to the championship bracket at the 28th Annual NAIA Volleyball National Championship.
Concordia won both matches on Wednesday and defeated Mount Vernon Nazarene (30-20, 30-26, 30-27) on Thursday to clinch a spot in the quarterfinals. The Eagles will face Lindenwood (Mo.) in the fourth quarterfinal match on Friday at 8:30 p.m. Traci Weamer had nine kills and 16 digs against MVNU while Stephanie Scheele led the team with 11 kills.
Madonna (Mich.) split its two matches on day one but defeated Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) in three (30-26, 30-27, 30-26) to advance to the championship bracket. Lubovj Tihomirova and Mary McGinnis both reached double digits in kills with 14 and 13 respectively for the Crusaders. Madonna will play in one of the two first round matches at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.
Olivet Nazarene went 1-2 in the pool play with a win against Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) in five (30-22, 26-30, 28-30, 34-32, 15-13) on Thursday. Four players reached double figures in kill led by Tara Schmidt with 21 for the Tigers against MVNU. Olivet Nazarene will end its season with 23-21 record.
Mount Vernon Nazarene posted 0-3 pool play record and dropped to 39-5 on the season. Shena Beheler recorded 28 kills in the loss against Olivet Nazarene.
