Texas at Brownsville Advances to Quarterfinals at 2007 NAIA Volleyball National Championship

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Texas at Brownsville defeated Madonna (Mich.), 3-1, in the first round match to advance to the quarterfinals at the 2007 NAIA Volleyball National Championship.  The Scorpions will face the top-seed Fresno Pacific (Calif.) at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

After dropping the first game, 30-25, UTB bounced back to take the next three, 30-28, 30-19 and 32-30 and improved its overall record to 36-8.  The Scorpions are led by Claudia Alarcon with 22 kills.  Talita Milasauskas, Katie Japp and Jenny Ashley also reached double digits in kills with 18, 16 and 10 respectively.  Dainarah Bracero led the way with 62 assists while Viviana Lozano was the team leader in digs with 20.  Japp also added 17 digs and Alarcon and Milasauskas each recorded 14.

Lubovj Tihomirova led three Crusaders in kills with 18.  Mary McGinnis added 14 while Stephanie Parslow had 11 kills.  Madonna will end its season with a 35-12 overall record.
