Five Remain Undefeated Through Pool Play at NAIA Volleyball National Championship

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Four seeded teams and one unseeded remain perfect in pool play at the 26th Annual NAIA Volleyball National Championship. Top-seeded Fresno Pacific University (Calif.), No. 2-seeded California Baptist University, third-seeded Madonna University (Mich.) and No. 6 Columbia College (Mo.) all finished the second day of pool play with 3-0 records. Unseeded Texas Wesleyan University upset #5 Missouri Baptist University to boast a 3-0 record.  Hosted by Point Loma Nazarene University (Calif.), the tournament is being played on campus in Golden Gymnasium November 30 - December 3.

Fresno Pacific has clinched a spot in the quarterfinals as no other team from Pool A has better than a 2-1 record.   The Sunbirds have one pool match remaining against Georgetown College (Ky.) (1-2) on Friday.  Houston Baptist University (Texas) is 2-1 and faces Lee University (Tenn.) (0-3) in the final match.  Albertson College (Idaho) concluded its pool matches with a 2-2 record and awaits the outcome of Friday's matches to determine advancement.

Pool B is the only other pool with at least one fate decided for advancement. Defending national champion California Baptist and Columbia, both at 3-0, will meet on Friday for their final match in pool play.  College of St. Mary (Neb.) sits at 1-2, while Doane College (Neb.) has completed its tournament with a 1-3 record.  Cedarville University (Ohio), 0-3, will conclude pool play on Friday against St. Mary.

Madonna sits in control of its own destiny, needing a win against No. 6 National American University (S.D.) to remain undefeated.  NAU is 2-1, with its only loss to Savannah College of Art and Design (Ga.) (1-2).  SCAD awaits outcomes of other games as the Bees lost to Indiana University Southeast, which finished 1-3.  Azusa Pacific University (Calif.) also sits in wait with a 1-2 record and a match against SCAD on Friday.

Pool D has Texas Wesleyan sitting pretty with a 3-0 record, while two teams, Dordt College (Iowa) and Missouri Baptist, have 2-1 records and a face-off on Friday.  With one match remaining, tournament host Point Loma Nazarene sports a 1-2 record and Iowa Wesleyan College finished up at 0-4.

Pool play concludes Friday afternoon with quarterfinal matches in the evening.  Semifinals and the championship match are all scheduled for Saturday, December 3.
