SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Fourth seeded Bellevue (Neb.) University had their hands full in the first day of the NAIA Volleyball National Championship, but came out on top to defeat unseeded Doane (Iowa) College 3-2 in pool D. Ninth seeded Lindenwood (Mo.) University was the other winner in the pool, with a four-game victory over Vanguard (Calif.) University.
Kali Schnacker and Maureen Wardian propelled Bellevue to 23-25, 25-23, 25-14, 19-25 and 15-10 victories against Doane with 16 kills apiece. Candace Clow notched an impressive 64 assists and 17 digs, while Katy Gregory finished with 22 digs. Chelsee Marvin led Doane with 18 kills.
The second match in pool D saw the Lindenwood Lions defeat the Vanguard Lions 25-19, 20-25, 30-28 and 25-19. Ellen Fandry led the balanced attack for Lindenwood with 16 kills. Krista Yoder chipped in 13 kills and 10 blocks. Heather Dejongh had 16 of Vanguard’s 60 kills and Alexandra Griffiths had 29 digs.
