SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Lower seeds defeated the top seeds in Pool D on the second day of the NAIA Volleyball National Championship Pool Play. Vanguard (Calif.) knocked off No. 4 Bellevue (Neb.), 28-26, 25-21, 20-25, 25-19 while Doane (Neb.) swept No. 9 Lindenwood (Mo.) 25-20, 25-23, 25-17.
Shardai Sublett led the way for Vanguard with 14 kills while Michal Shortridge added 12 kills and Jamie Heenan recorded 10 kills. Alexandra Griffiths was the leader on defense with 18 digs and Meghan Walsh assisted on 42 kills. Jaclyn Thorson led Bellevue with 15 kills and Katy Gregory led the match with 23 kills.
Heather Davison recorded a double-double for Doane with 18 assists and 10 digs while Ashley Sluka added 17 assists and nine digs. Jessy Livers led the attack with 10 kills while Emily Schwisow recorded a match high 21 digs. Krista Yoder and Ellen Fandry each added 10 kills for Lindenwood.
