SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Fresno Pacific (Calif.) and Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) from Pool A advanced to the single-elimination bracket at the 29th Annual NAIA Volleyball National Championship. Both teams posted a 2-1 pool play record but Fresno Pacific wins the pool after winning the head-to-head matchup against Point Loma Nazarene on Wednesday.
Morningside (Iowa) dropped the first two matches of the pool play, but pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament knocking of previously undefeated and No. 1 Fresno Pacific, 3-2 (25-20, 16-25, 12-25, 25-18, 15-10). Addi Radke led the way with 14 kills for Morningside while Jamie Vander Kooi added 13 kills and Amber Jarzynka chipped in 11. Thais Julio led the match with 19 kills for Fresno Pacific. Morningside finished 1-2 in the pool play and end the season with a 37-6 overall record.
Point Loma Nazarene knocked off Black Hills State (S.D.) 25-23, 20-25, 23-25, 25-18, 15-13 to finish second in the pool. Tabitha Henken led the team with 16 kills while Zoe Beltz added 13 and Sheriess Peters chipped in 11 kills. Maggie O’Neil had a match-high 20 kills for Black Hills State. The Yellow Jackets finished the pool play with 1-2 record and ends the season 26-8 overall.
